Spring Home Maintenance Checklist for Phoenix, Arizona

It is starting to feel like spring in Phoenix! Although we have a less severe winter here in the Valley, it is still important to do some house maintenance to keep your home in its best shape.

  1. Change out all air filters.
All the pollen in the spring air should remind you that it’s time to replace those air filters. You should be replacing your air filters every season, but if you live in a dusty area or someone in your home has allergies, it is wise to change it monthly.
  2. Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Three out of five home fire deaths could have been prevented if there was properly working
smoke alarm. Lethal amounts of carbon monoxide are undetectable by smell or sight. Read more about how to test these devices and why it is important: https://electricleague.wordpress.com/2018/04/01/smoke-detectors-and-carbon-monoxide-detectors/
  3. Do a walk through of your home’s exterior.
This is important to notice any potential damage. Some of the things to pay special attention to are foundation cracks, the walls to see if there is any peeling paint or holes caused by water or birds. This can also be a good to see if your trees are touching electric lines. You can also pick up the inevitable pieces of trash that end up in your yard before the HOA issues fines.
  4. Clean out gutters.
It’s been raining in February here in Arizona. Rain water and the winter season can typically bring lots of debris and leaves. Cleaning it regularly can help prevent moisture getting trap in your gutter, a great habitat for fungus and mosquitoes.
  5. Clean your windows and repair/replace window screens if needed.
As part of your spring cleaning, you should also clean both interior facing and exterior facing windows. If you notice that the window screen is broken, you should get that repaired so bugs cannot make their way into your home.
  6. Spray to remove pests and weeds.
Rain brings beautiful spring foliage but also weeds and insects.  Spray for both or contact a professional to help.
  7. Service your air conditioning system.
The spring season is a great time for AC check-ups since the technicians are typically less busy in comparison with the summer season. Getting it serviced by a professional can help save money and headaches down the road. Check out our Cooling System Checkup Special Offer.
