Tips to Keep You and Your Family Safe this Summer

In the Pool:
  • There are risks for electrical shocks in and around the pool.  Take proper precautions.  Check for sparks coming from electrical equipment and keep a fiberglass Shepherd’s crook/rescue hook in case you need to safely remove electrocuted persons from the pool without shocking yourself.
  • Get swimming lessons for children and CPR lessons for supervising adults.
  • Make sure that pool drains are equipped with anti-entrapment drain covers.

Away from Home or On Vacation:
  • Outdoor summer heat is strongest between 10am-4pm.  Limit your sun exposure during these times.
  • Apply sunscreen of at least 15 SPF, 30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours, after swimming, or when vigorously sweating.
  • Small appliances such as toasters, curling irons, blenders, etc. should be unplugged before leaving to prevent fire hazards and to save energy.

During the 4th of July:
  • Keep grills at least 10 feet from other objects, including the house and bushes.
  • Never grill/barbecue in enclosed areas - carbon monoxide could be produced.
  • Supervise children when using fireworks.  Even sparklers can reach 2000 degrees!
