Appliance Maintenance Tips

Washing Machine and Dryer Maintenance
Water line hoses should be changed about every three years.  Replace rubber hoses with stainless steel braided pipe lines.  They are crack and leak resistant.

Place a strainer in your washing machine hoses to catch debris that can block your water flow.  Most hardware stores carry strainers that fit laundry hoses.

Consider upgrading to a more energy efficient front loading washing machine.

Regularly remove dryer lint to help prevent fires and so the dryer heats more effectively.

Water Heating
  • Keep your water heater no hotter than 120 degrees (Fahrenheit) to save money on water heating costs.
  • Check your tank for rusty water.  This is a hazard and you may need to replace the water heater.
  • Replace water heaters that are over 15 years old.
  • Consider investing in a solar water heater as they are more energy efficient and can save you money in the long run.  They can also be surprisingly affordable after factoring in utility rebates and tax credit incentives.
