Home Improvements are easier said than done. You may have an area in your home you aren't happy with, but knowing what to do with it can be a challenge. In search of some inspiration, we’ve decided to shine a spotlight on a valley home that has taken home repair to a whole new level. We loved what Susan C. of Phoenix did with her guest home, and thought it could serve as motivation to jumpstart your own home improvements.
Located behind the main house sits a small brick cottage that was once used as a tool shed. After some renovation done by the homeowner before her, the space is now equipped with a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Susan describes the guest house as “an industrial style loft meets a quaint English cottage.” It’s easy to tell where she got her style inspiration from – Susan moved to the valley a decade and a half ago from England. As you can tell, British charm blends seamlessly with practical desert architecture and landscape.

Upon walking into the guest house you immediately notice the beautiful exposed brick walls. Susan took full opportunity of the natural brick interior and exterior to create an inviting place for guests to stay. If you have brick walls that are concealed by drywall, consider exposing one wall to add a distinctive accent piece.

A combination of modern furniture and original antique pieces make the small space unique and lively. Susan found décor items from all over the valley to fill the guest house. The colors really pop against the neutral furniture and walls. Personalize your own home by letting your personality shine through. Look for signature pieces that tell a story about who you are. Even incorporating one or two unique items can really make a room individual.
If you have been wanting to dive into a home improvement project, we hope this motivates and gives you at least a couple of ideas. Thank you, Susan C. for letting us show off your lovely guest home.
